BARRATT HOMES BRIGHT IDEA FOR PUPILS ON ROAD SAFETY WEEK

Pupils at St Francis Catholic Primary School in Goosnargh recently received a donation of hi-vis vests from Barratt Homes to help them shine bright during Road Safety Week.

Barratt Homes gave the school 35 of the hi-vis vests for its pupils to use whilst out on school trips, ensuring they can be easily seen on the roads as the darker nights draw in.

Road Safety Week takes place from 14th to 20th November and encourages pupils to take the utmost care when walking near to and across roads.

According to figures from the 2021 National Travel Survey (NTS) and 2020-2021 Active Lives Survey (ALS), the number of children walking or cycling to school is falling. In 2021, 46% of children aged between five and 16 walked or cycled to school, a decrease from 50% in 2020.

The government’s Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy features a target to increase the percentage of children that usually walk to school to 55% in 2025.

Shelley Nuttall, Bursar at St Francis Catholic Primary School, said: “We are very delighted and grateful of the donation of 35 high visibility vests for the children at St Francis Catholic Primary School.

“They will be used on school trips and walks in the local area and the children can’t wait until their next trip to wear them! A huge thank you to Barratt Homes for their support.”

St Francis Catholic Primary School is located nearby Barratt Homes’ Rogerson Gardens development and the donation of hi-vis vests is another part of Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ outreach to the local community.

School trips are a valuable part of the primary school curriculum and the reflective vests will give teachers, parents and pupils alike the extra peace of mind that they are visible to motorists.

Rhys Nicholson, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “We want to ensure the pupils in the local communities remain visible now the darker nights are here, and our donation has hopefully still encouraged them to safely practice Road Safety Week.

“Our development is located near to St Francis Catholic Primary School, so as families move into their new homes it is important for us to support Road Safety Week and encourage young children to stay safe whilst away on school trips.”

Barratt Homes’ hi-vis vests have been particularly useful during Road Safety Week, whilst being certain to benefit the pupils in their future excursions throughout the winter months.

Barratt Homes has a selection of three and four bedroom homes available at Rogerson Gardens with prices starting from £223,995.
