GREATER MANCHESTER PUPILS GIFTED NEW FRIENDSHIP BENCH TO ENCOURAGE MENTAL WELLBEING

Following Anti-Bullying Week (Monday 14th November to Friday 18th November), we donated a friendship bench to St William’s Catholic Primary School in Wigan.

Close to the our Amberswood Rise development on Seaman Way, the school received a buddy bench inscribed with ‘We sit, we chat and ask each other questions. We leave as friends, with all good intentions’ for children to use when they need somebody to talk to.

Anti-Bullying Week is led by Anti-Bullying Alliance, which is a coalition of organisations and individuals, with the aim to create safe environments for children to learn, play and flourish without judgement or scrutiny.

The Anti-Bullying Alliance recognises that a small conversation can make a big difference. The organisation has reached millions of people across England and has begun to improve attitudes and behaviours towards mental health problems.

Emily Ellis, Headteacher at St William’s Catholic Primary School, said: “On behalf of the pupils and staff at Bishop’s Itchington Primary School, I would like to Barratt Homes for the donation of a friendship bench.

“The mental wellbeing of our children is of the utmost importance, so giving them a safe space dedicated to encouraging open discussion is a most welcome addition to our school.”

Rhys Nicholson, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “Having a space to socialise with peers, create friendships and be open about mental health from a young age is extremely important.

“We hope that by donating a friendship bench, children at St William’s Catholic Primary School will be encouraged to talk openly to each other and staff about how they’re feeling.

“Anti-Bullying Week is an important annual nationwide initiative, and we relish the opportunity to reach out to schools and organisations within our community and provide support for such a deserving cause.”
